More About GFM Accredited Vascular Lab

The GFM Surgical Associates Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory, located on the premises, is accredited by ICAVL, www.icavl.org, the Intersocietal Commission for Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories.

ICAVL is a group of organizations concerned with maintaining the quality of noninvasive vascular testing of the body's circulation. This accreditation is remarkable because of the high level of quality and expertise, which must be presented to the ICAVL board.

GFM Surgical Associates' Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory is one of only three labs in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland Counties to receive this distinction. The accreditation process assures both the patient and the referring physician that the physicians, technologists and procedures performed in our lab meet and exceed criteria set by National Standards.

The following is a list of the more common tests performed in our lab:

  • Carotid Ultrasound Exam: Examines the blood flow in the carotid arteries of the neck. Disease of these arteries is a main cause of stroke.
  • Venous Duplex Exam: Studies the blood flow in the veins of the extremities to detect blood clots as well as venous insufficiency.
  • Arterial Doppler Extremity Exam: This is commonly known as a PVR and studies the blood flow as it travels down the arms and legs.
  • Aorta Ultrasound Exam: Studies the main artery in the abdomen to determine the presence of an aneurysm and presence of occlusive disease.

Mrs. Teresa Ilg, R.N. is the Technical Director of our laboratory and is a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT). She has over 22 years experience in vascular laboratory testing.

Testing is available, weekdays evenings and Saturdays. Please call (609) 927-8550 for an appointment.
